Stuttgart is the capital of the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg. It is an urban district and is one of the largest cities in Germany. It receives the status of Stadtkreis, which allows it to function as a self-governing county. It is also one of the oldest cities in Germany and Europe, and was founded in the 10th century.
The city is known for its industrial reputation and is known as the "Cradle of the Automobile". It is spread across valley, parks and hills, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. Aside from tourism, Stuttgart is also known for its high-tech industry, with international companies such as Porsche, Hewlett Packard, Celesio, IBM, Bosch, and Daimler AG making their home in the city.
Stuttgart´s motto states: ‘Stuttgart is More’. To outsiders, tourists and business, the city describes itself as ‘Where Business Meets the Future’. It has also been marketed as being the ‘Creative Power of Germany’. In 2008, the city unveiled its new slogan, which states ‘The New Heart of Europe’.
