St. Thomas, also known as “Rock City,” is a popular Caribbean destination for tourists. Located in the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas is famous for its beaches, shopping, nightlife and luxurious accommodations. Divided into six regions, it is home to a number of cities that drew record numbers of tourists every day.
The most notable part of St. Thomas is Magen´s Bay, a crescent-shaped bay that stretches to miles of white sandy beaches and is jam-packed with an array of beach and water activities. Other shoreline points of interest in St. Thomas include Hull Bay, Brewer's Bay, Coki Beach, Sapphire Beach and Secret Harbour.
St. Thomas is near Downtown or Charlotte Amalie, the main shopping and dining destination for tourists straight from cruise ships. It has many shops and places for sightseeing, food and drink. For high-end shopping, tourists can also head to Yacht Haven Grande or Crown Bay. East End, on the other hand, is another popular tourist destination that is known for its nightlife.
Some tourist sites in St. Thomas include Water Island, Fort Christian and 99 Steps. Water Island, which is across the bay from Charlotte Amalie, is an islet with a historic sugar mill and trails. Fort Christian is a Danish enclave built in the 1600s and houses a museum that contains historical artifacts dating to the establishment of the enclave, not to mention a deck that offers panoramic views of the harbor. 99 Steps is a flight of steps that lead to Charlotte Amalie, the bricks used to line its steps were brought all the way from Denmark.
