Brazil´s largest city and the world´s seventh largest metropolis, Sao Paulo is the capital of the state of Sao Paulo, the most populated Brazil State. It is also the richest Brazilian city, with its name meaning Saint Paul in Portuguese. Sao Paulo has a strong influence in the region´s commerce, finance, arts and entertainment. Many renowned landmarks are in Sao Paulo.

Millions of immigrants came to Brazil in the early twentieth centuries and were greeted by the Immigrant´s Hostel. Downtown´s Paulista Avenue is the most important financial center of the country and of South America. The Sao Paulo Stock Exchange is here as well as Brazil´s tallest buildings including the Mirante do Vale Building. Within an area of 1,523 square kilometers, there is an estimated 11,105,249 residents. People from the city of Sao Paulo are called paulistanos. The Latin motto of the city is "Non ducor duco" which means "I am not led, I lead". Sao Paulo is also known for the size of its helicopter fleet, unreliable weather, architecture and skyscrapers.
