San Diego is the second largest city in California and the ninth largest in the United States located along the Pacific Ocean on the west coast of the United States. San Diego is named after the Spanish translation of Saint Didacus and has a total population of approximately 1,353,993 in 2009 census. This city by the coast is the county seat of San Diego Country as well as the hub of economy of the metropolitan area of San Diego, Carlsbad and the San Marcos. It is the thirty-eighth largest metro area in the nation including Tijuana, Mexico.

Its economy is mostly made up manufacturing, biotechnology agriculture, electronics, financial services, ship repair, wireless research, software development and tourism. San Diego´s University of California San Diego, also called UCSD with its hospital affiliation UCSD Medical Center highly promotes biotechnology research.
