Salvador is a city on Brazil´s northeast coast and the capital of Northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Salvador is known as Brazil´s capital of happiness due to its leisure-loving population and countless popular outdoor parties which includes an outdoor street carnival. The city is one of the oldest in the country and is the first colonial capital of Brazil. For quite a bit of time it was known as Bahia and appears under that name on maps and books before the mid-twentieth century. After Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Salvador is the third most populated in Brazil and the 9th most populated in Latin America after Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogota, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago and Caracas.

Salvador is noted within Brazil for its music, cuisine, architecture and the wealthiest metropolitan area in the northeastern region of the country. A lot of black African ancestry is in the culture since eighty percent of the population of Salvador is composed of Black Africans.
