North Carolina´s capital and the Wake county´s seat, Raleigh is the second most populated city in North Carolina after Charlotte. Raleigh is better known as the "city of oaks" for the many oak trees it has. According to the United States Census Bureau, the estimated population of the city is 392,552 in 2008. The historical Research Triangle is made up of historical primary cities which are Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh. The fastest growing metropolis in the area, most of this city is located inside Wake County with a very small portion extending into Durham County. Nearby suburbs include Wake Forest, Holly springs, Wendell and Rolesville. The Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department offers an array of leisure opportunities in 8,100 acres of park land, including five public lakes, one hundred twelve tennis courts, eight public aquatic facilities and twenty-two community centers. The J C Raulston Arboretum is an eight-acre botanical garden administered by the North Carolina State University.
