Providence, the largest city and the capital of Rhode Island, is situated at the end of Providence River. It is divided into three districts, namely College Hill, Federal Hill and South Providence. Used to be known as the Renaissance City, Providence has become a worthwhile tourist destination as it is home to several museums, parks, interesting streetscapes, historical sites, cultural events and a thriving nightlife.

The city is one of America´s oldest cities, thus, Providence has many historic buildings and pre-revolutionary houses including the Trinity Repertory Theater and the Rhode Island State House. The city´s East Side neighborhood houses the largest contiguous area of old structures registered in the National Register of Historic Places in the U.S.

Visitors in Providence should definitely stop by at Roger Williams National Memorial, which exhibits memorabilia of the original settlement and freedom of religion. It is also home to the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, which has one of the largest art collections in the U.S. Other places of interest in Providence are the Bank of America Skating Center, Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, Nibbles Woodaway, Roger Williams Park and Waterplace Park.
