Prague is the Czech Republic´s capital city. The economic, cultural and political center of the Czech state for more than 1100 years, Prague is located in central Bohemia on the River Vltava. The present day city proper is home to more than 1.2 million people with a metropolitan area estimated to have a population of a total of 1.9 million. This extensive center of history has been included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Prague is nicknamed the "mother of cities", "city of a thousand spyres" and the "golden city". Viewed from on top of the Vysehrad, which is the thousand-year old citadel in the south end pierces the sky. Renaissance, Gothic and rich lines of baroque architectural buildings stand stoically on Prague´s streets, enduring the strife, the hardship and the challenges each tragedy has brought with it. The old worn-out cobblestone streets have felt the weight of king´s horses, the boots of the armies of Hitler, the wheels of tanks used by the Soviets and the many feet of students in a passive revolt.
