Located near the Columbia and Willamette rivers , it has been called the greenest city in the United States and the second greenest in the World. About two million people live in the Portland metropolitan area, which is the twenty-third most populous in the entire United States as of 2006.

Portland is also known for its numerous micro-distilleries, microbreweries and love for coffee. It is home to the basketball team named the Trail Blazers NBA.
