About Pittsburgh Car Rentals

The county seat of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, has a population of 334,563. Pittsburgh is the second largest city among the states in America. The three rivers named the Monongahela, the Ohio and the Allegheny, weave through Pittsburgh´s hilly landscape making them visible at every turn. The city has 151 buildings, 446 bridges, two railways that are inclined and a fortification that has been pre-revolutionary.

The Golden Triangle ten-block district is where the rivers meet and was once fought over as the West gateway. Fort Pitt was built by the British replacing Fort Duquesne which the French built on 1754. In the 1800s the steel industry began with the development of foundries of iron and eventually, half of the iron and a third of the glass in the United States was being produced by Pittsburgh. More than any other city in the world, Steel City is crisscrossed by one bridge after another.

Contemporary sculptures, theaters and sleek glass tower offices finally outnumber the belching steel mills for which the city is famous. Right in the middle of the newest shopping and entertainment hub Station Square stands an old steel blast furnace which now serves as a piece of art and was formerly a part of Steel City´s indispensable cog.
