Perth is fourth among the cities in the nation with a growth rate higher than the average. It is the largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia and is its capital with a population of 1,650,000. Perth was founded in 1829 by Captain James Stirling, the political center of the Swan River Colony. The metropolitan area is in the south west between the Indian Ocean and Darling range, which is a low coastal escarpment. The central business district and suburbs of Perth are on the Swan River. Perth is tied for fifth place in the 2009 Economist´s list of World´s Most Livable Cities.

When American astronaut John Glenn passed overhead while orbiting the earth in 1962´s Friendship 7, he saw lights coming from the city, since then Perth became known as the ‘City of Lights.’ Attractions include the Benedictine monks in the Spanish Renaissance monastery in the town of New Norcia as well as Margaret River country which one of the country´s top wine regions. The Swan Valley vineyards are also available for wine tasting.
