Norfolk is known as an independent city located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Much of the city´s history lies in its participation as a strategic point for military and transportation operations. It is also known for being the home of Norfolk Naval Base, which is the largest naval base in the world.

The city is noted as the cultural heart of the Hampton Roads region. Aside from the number of outstanding museums that the city has, Norfolk also boasts of being the principal home of a number of major performing arts companies. One of the top museums the city is proud of is the Chrysler Museum of Art, which is located in the Ghent district.

Other attractions that can be found in Norfolk include the Virginia Opera, Hermitage Foundation Museum, Norfolk Scope, Town Point Park and Norfolk Botanical Garden. Yearly events such as the Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food Festival, St. Patrick´s Day, Town Point Virginia Wine Festival, Norfolk Jazz Festival, Spring Wine Festival, and Parade of Sail are just some of the festivals that draw visitors to the city.
