Newark, also known as “The Brick City,” is the largest city in New Jersey. Although its history is marred by political turmoil and problems, today, the city is home to more than 300 types of businesses that include more than 1,800 retail outlets, and is also the third largest insurance center in the United States.

There are numerous attractions and tourist destinations in Newark. Among these are the Newark Museum, the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart which is among the largest gothic cathedrals in the country, the National Newark Building which is the tallest in the city, the sculptures of the Seated Lincoln and the Wars of America, and the Jewish Museum located inside the Congregation Ahavas Sholom which is actually the last synagogue in operation in the city.

Newark is also home to several art galleries which include the City Without Walls and Aljira which features the works of “underrepresented” artists. It will also soon be home to the Museum of African American Music.
