New York is the third most populated state in the United States found in the Northeastern and mid-Atlantic regions. It is bordered by Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the south and Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut to the east. This state has a maritime border with Rhode Island east of Long Island and an international border with the Canadian province of Ontario on the west side and the province of Quebec to the north. New York is frequently called New York State in order to differentiate it from New York City. New York City is the largest city of New York state and the most populous in the nation. It is known for its history as a gateway for immigration to the United States and its status as a cultural, transportation, financial and manufacturing center.

It is a destination of choice for many foreigners as well according to the U S Department of Commerce. New York is the third largest state in population as well, after Texas and California with approximately 19,490,297 people. New York was inhabited by Native American groups at the time French and Dutch nationals moved into the region in early seventeenth century. This went on until it was first claimed by Henry Hudson in 1609. Main attractions are the Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural History and Harlem Market.
