Munich, the capital city of Bavaria, Germany is the 3rd largest German city and is found on the River Isar in the north Bavarian Alps. With a population of about 1.35 people within just its city limits. The city´s motto is "Munchen mag Dich" which, in English, literally means "Munich Loves You." In order to honor the fact that Benedictine monks founded the city, the native name, Munchen is derived from an old German word ‘monche’ which means Monks in English. Bavarian towns and cities are a part of the Greater Munich Region including Erding, Starnberg, Moosburg, Landshut, Freising and Dachau and are called the Munich Metropolitan Region.

Munich is famous for its breweries; wheat beer is a specialty in Bavaria. About twenty main beer gardens with the most popular located at Englischer Garten and the largest one in Hirschgarten. Also a major cultural center, Munich has hosted many prominent composers included Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner as well as Gustav Mahler. The National Theater as well as The Golden Friedensengel feature many interesting works of art and shows.
