Manchester, one of England´s largest cities, has a population of 458,100 in 2007. Lying within England´s largest metropolitan areas, Manchester now has major airlines flying in from North America, making the city a gateway to Northern England. Known primarily for its most visible and successful football stars of its team Manchester United Football, Manchester has also been in the spotlight these past few years for its hip music group Oasis, whose album was the fastest selling debut album in British history.

Manchester´s docklands, now called "The Lowry" is now filled with theaters, galleries, shops and restaurants as well as a plaza good enough for and audience of ten thousand, following a four hundred million pound restoration. The Museum of Science and Industry also resides here, reminding everyone that in the mid-seventeenth century, this city capitalized on the burgeoning textile industry as well as being catapulted into the industrial movement´s forefronts with its railway system. Museums made from rustic factory equipment and old Victorian architecture are currently being renovated.
