Lisbon is the largest city of Portugal and is also its capital. The Lisbon Metropolitan Region has a population of 3.34 million making it the most important economic and financial center in the Iberian Peninsula. Reputedly the eight wonder of the world at one point, Lisbon has one of the greatest marine centers in history making it a central hub for trade with Asia, Europe and Africa. Asian treasures, American red dyewood, semi-precious stones, spices, coffee, diamonds all found its way to the seaports of Lisbon.

Exotic wares and the world´s collection of spices are available at Lisbon. Modern buildings have taken the place of many of the 19th century Nouveau Art structures that was Lisbon´s skyline. New trams now line the streets and old palaces have been restored, giving you a combination of the old that is gone and the new that has come. The 1998 Vasco de Gama Bridge of the Tagus makes it possible to access other areas of Portugal, Spain and the Alentejo province.
