Islip is a town situated on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island in Suffolk County in New York. It began as a land patented by William Nicoll and other patentees such as Andrew Gibb, John Mowbray, Stephen Van Cortlandt and Thomas Willets. Slowly, the area progressed into a tourist town when regular ferry services started in operation.

The land and location of Islip is ideal for tourism and for summer homes so that numerous establishments catering to tourists began to be created. Soon, the tourists who visited bought land and built their own homes. The World War II and the Great Depression took its toll on the area so that it has since been converted to a farming town.

Still, the town of Islip retains its charm to tourists. Natural parks such as the Connetquot River State Park Preserve, Heckscher State Park, and the Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park continue to draw visitors to Islip. Many visitors flock to the town for the annual St. Patrick´s Day parade which is the largest in Long Island.
