Houston, nicknamed ‘Space City’, is the largest city in the US state of Texas and 4th largest in the entire United States. It has an estimated 2.2 million inhabitants within its 600 square miles. The city also serves as the seat of Harris County and it considered as the economic capital of the metropolitan area it belongs to.

Founded in the early 19th century, Houston was named after the General Sam Houston. The surge in settlement is attributed to improved lines of transportation as well as to the discovery of oil in 1901. Today, the city continues to become a big player in the American oil industry. It also serves as the home of NASA´s Johnson Space Center as well as of the Texas Medical Center.

Ranked as a Beta World City, Houston has an economy that is not only based on energy and aeronautics, but also on manufacturing, transport, and health. It is also home to several Fortune 500 companies.
