About Hamilton, Bermuda Hotels

The port city of Hamilton is the capital of Bermuda, an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. It is located north of the natural harbor, Hamilton Harbour and was named after Sir Henry Hamilton, the city´s governor from 1778 to 1794.

Hamilton has been the financial and commercial center of Bermuda since 1815, and presently houses more than 90 percent of Bermuda´s employers. Despite being considered as one of the smallest cities in the world, Hamilton has an advanced economy. It is considered as a global reinsurance center as it is the headquarters of numerous international insurance corporations. It is also the home base of global companies that specialize in investment funds and special purpose vehicles.

One of the most popular events in Hamilton is the annual late night shopping and dining experience. During Wednesday nights every summer from late April to mid-October, the city´s Front Street comes alive with the 24-week long Harbor Nights. During these time, locals and visitors can shop and eat in many stalls and stores until 10 p.m. while enjoying island culture and a variety of free entertainment from street performers at the same time.

For a city of its small size, Hamilton is home to a number of sizeable parks. The most famous of which is Victoria Park, which was named after Queen Victoria and is one of the largest parks in Hamilton. Other city parks include All Bouy´s Point Park, Barr´s Park, Par La Ville Park. Other interesting points to see in Hamilton include the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Phoenix Clock, Back O' Town or the Pond, City Hall Square, Bermuda Historical Society Museum and Bermuda National Gallery.
