Officially called the ‘Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg’, which refers to the city´s Hanseatic League history, it is one of the major transport hubs in Germany. It also serves as one of the country´s top industrial and media centers.

Hamburg´s seaport is the second largest in the EU and the 9th largest in the world. It is one of the city´s most important sources of income and is one of its biggest employers as well. Aside from its importance as a seaport, the city is also an important part of the civil aerospace industry, due to the presence of Airbus.
