Guadalajara is a city in Mexico. It was founded in the 16th century and it currently serves as the capital of the Mexican state of Jalisco. The city has an estimated population of over 1.5 million making it the second most populous municipality in the country. It was named after the Spanish city of Guadalajara, which translates into ‘Valley of Stones’ or ‘Stony River’.

Dubbed as ‘Mexico´s Silicone Valley’, Guadalajara is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and in North America. In 2007, FDi Magazine´s ‘Cities of the Future’ survey ranked the city highest among other cities in the country. The same survey also recognized Guadalajara as having the second ‘strongest economic potential’ in North America second only to Chicago.

Aside from its affinity with electronics and high-tech production, the city also thrives on its tourism. It easy accessibility to Mexico City and surrounding resort towns makes it an ideal stop for tourists.
