The City of Buffalo in New York has many nicknames – The City of Good Neighbors, The Nickel City, The City of Light, The Queen City and the Queen City of the Lakes. It had once been a highly industrialized city but its economy has shifted to banking as well as bioinformatics, human genome research, and those dedicated for the life sciences.

Buffalo is home to several parks so that it is also known to be the City of Trees; majority of the parks belong to the Olmsted Park and Parkway System. The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is an example of a park in the city. Other destinations and popular landmarks include the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Guaranty Building which is also a National Historic Landmark, the Buffalo City Hall which is an Art Deco building which also belongs to the National Register of Historic Places, and the Our Lady of Victory Basilica.

The city is also home to the Buffalo Museum of Science, the Edward M. Cotter fireboat which is a National Historic Landmark and is the world´s oldest active fireboat, the Buffalo Zoo which is the third oldest zoo in the U.S., and the Lafayette Square.
