Budapest is the largest city in, and is the capital of, Hungary. These factors contribute to make the city as the country´s center for economy, culture, commerce, industry, transport, education, and, of course, politics. In all of Europe, it is the city with the highest population of Jews.
The city is considered to be among the most beautiful in Europe; in fact, UNESCO has designated several areas of the city as World Heritage Sites. Some of these are the Castle Hill and the Castle District, Buda Castle Quarter, Europe´s second oldest: Millennium Underground Railway, the banks of the Danube River, Andrássy Avenue, and Heroes´ Square. Also, the city has the largest thermal water cave system in the world, 80 geothermal springs, and the third largest Parliament building in the whole world.
Other attractions include Andrássy út, Matthias Church, Sándor Palace, the Central Market Hall, and the many parks, monuments, statues, bridges, and caves in the city.
