Bogota, the capital city of Colombia, is officially known as Bogotá, D.C. with "D.C." standing as "Distrito Capital" or Capital District. The city was first called as "Bacatá" which means "planted fields". The founder of the European settlement, Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, renamed the place as "Santa Fé de Bacatá" after the existing name and his birthplace. Modern use changed the old name to "Santa Fe de Bogotá" then to the current one used up to this day.

The city is Colombia´s largest economic center – in fact, most of the companies located in the country have their headquarters here. Like many developed cities, Bogota has various means of transportation; still, the roads and highways still require some significant upgrades to address congestion.

Bogota is well known for its vibrant nightlife and beautiful parks. Some of these parks are Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park, Jardín Botánico de Bogotá, Parque del Chicó, and Parque de la 93. There are also amusement parks – Mundo Aventura and Salitre Mágico – where rides and attractions are available.
