Known as the sixth largest metropolitan area all over Europe, Amsterdam is one of the most popular cities in the Netherlands, apart from being the capital of the said country. It is located in North Holland and situated in the western part of the country. The city got its name from "Amstel dam", which indicates the origin of the city – a dam by the Amstel river. Today, the river is no longer available, but it its place stands Dam Square.

Amsterdam is made up of a unique architecture and system. It lies east of Damrak and in terms of culture, it has gained notoriety for having a red light district. This is known as the oldest area of the town, or the de Wallen. Apart from this, the canal system where there are four concentric half-circles of canals that have ends emerging at the IJ bay. Truly, apart from the unique architecture and structure of the city, the colorful culture of the city makes it one of the known cities in the world.
