About Amarillo Hotels

Located on the edge of the Great Plains Amarillo, which means 'yellow' in Spanish, is known as “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” The city, which has been founded in 1887, has now grown to be a small cosmopolitan center with its own convention center, ballet, and opera house. It is the gateway to the Palo Duro Canyon and is considered one of the best places to experience the true culture of the North American West.

A day at the rodeo is also something that no visitor to the city should miss while in Amarillo. Cowboy and Texas culture can be enjoyed in the city especially during the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo held every September, which has been a tradition since 1921, and the Cowboy Roundup USA held every June.

Amarillo delights tourists with a number of natural attractions such as over fifty municipal parks and the Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the country´s second largest canyon system after the Grand Canyon. Some interesting places to see include historic homes and buildings, the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Paramount Theater, Cadillac Ranch, Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, Wonderland Amusement Park, American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), Amarillo Art Center, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Don Harrington Discovery Center, Dynamite Museum, Pharmacy Museum, Kwahadi Kiva Indian Museum, and English Field Air & Space Museum.
