Akron is a city in Ohio, United States and is located on the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Canton. The name “Akron,” which roughly translates to “summit” in Greek, is rooted from the word “acropolis” which meaning “highest.” The city has a number of nicknames including the “Rubber Capital of the World,” “City of Invention,” “Tire City,” “Rubber City,” and “Summit City.” The people, on the other hand, are called “Akronites.”

Akron City has been home to a number of famous people including John Lithgow, Lebron James, Angie Everhart, the band Devo, Rita Dove, the late Thurman Munson, Ray Anderson, and the late Judith Resnik. Incidentally, sightings of the “Grassman” or the “Ohio Grassman,” an alleged ape-like creature (cryptid), have been reportedly seen around the city especially in Kenmore.

Among the points of interest in the city include the Canal Park, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Derby Downs, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, American Marble and Toy Museum, Akron Police Museum, Don Drumm Studios and Gallery and Akron Civic Theatre. Other than these spots, another tourist magnet in Akron is the annual Founder´s Day commemorating the founding of the known Alcoholics Anonymous.
